SAN JOSE, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Sept. 6, 2005— Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE:CY), a world leader in video physical layer devices (PHYs), today announced two new multirate video cable equalizers targeted at the professional video market. The new devices complement Cypress's HOTLink-On-Demand(TM) family of high-speed video SERDES (as well as other SERDES), offering an easy-to-implement complete port solution in professional video equipment designs, including production switchers, distribution amplifiers, D/A converters, and camera control units.

The CYV15G0102 delivers standard definition (SD) signals over greater than 400 meters and high-definition (HD) signals over greater than 200 meters. These specifications compare to the industry-standard distance range of 100 meters for HD and 300 meters for SD signals. The CYV15G0101 equalizer is guaranteed to drive equalized SD signals over 300 meters of coaxial cable, and HD signals over 100 meters. In addition, the CYV15G0101/2 devices offer a power savings of 40 percent over competing solutions, typically an important feature in video systems requiring multiple input SDI links such as production switchers and video routers.

"Cypress's new equalizers offer the industry's best performance along with a standard pinout that eases the design process," said Erin Kettwig, product manager for Cypress physical layer devices. "Cypress is interested in helping our customers extend the distances between their systems without additional design effort. In conjunction with the HOTLink-On-Demand(TM) family of video SERDES and YLink products, we now offer video equipment designers an economical, robust suite of products for next-generation systems."

The CYV15G0101/2 are compliant with the Society of Motion Pictures and Television Engineers (SMPTE) 292M, 344M and 259M data rates. The devices are pin-compatible with existing solutions, giving users an easy migration path without board re-design.

The superior eye diagram characteristics of the CYV15G0101/2 allow for more forgiving board design, such as longer trace lengths and other less-than-optimal board conditions. The new devices also support launch amplitudes from 500 mV to 1.2 V at HD rates, allowing equalization to be independent of the transmitter launch amplitude. This independence offers more system design flexibility and can support system and network anomalies without failure to equalize the data.

In a related announcement, Cypress today also introduced the YLink(TM) Port Protection Switch that provides cost-effective redundancy throughout video networks. Cypress will demonstrate the new equalizers, along with HOTLink-On-Demand family of video SERDES and the new YLink port protection switch, in booth 11.141 at the International Broadcasters Conference (IBC) to be held at the RAI Convention Centre, Amsterdam, Netherlands from September 9 through September 13, 2005. For more information, or to make an appointment to see a short demonstration at IBC, interested parties can send an email to video_solutions@cypress.com.

Pricing and Availability

The CYV15G0101/2 are offered in lead-free 16-pin SOIC packages. Pricing in 1000-unit quantities is $51 each for the CYV15G0101 and $66 each for the CYV15G0102. Samples of the new devices will be available later this month, with full production availability slated for Q1 of 2006.
